Yvonne Agosta (Romney) Mohammed, 83, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on September 15, 2022 at Brauns Nursing Home. Yvonne was born on the French Caribbean island of Saint Barthélemy on June 4, 1939 and spent her formative years on the British island of Anguilla and the Dutch island of Aruba. In the mid-1960s, she relocated to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, where she met and married Kerfiler Mohammed and raised three daughters.
In 1982, Yvonne and her two younger daughters relocated to Evansville, where her eldest daughter, Birdie, was a student at the University of Evansville (UE). For more than three decades Yvonne worked in food service, both at UE's dining hall and at Little Sisters of the Poor. She was a hardworking, industrious, and talented cook, and a generous and loyal friend to many in the Evansville community. Yvonne was a long-standing member of Life in Abundance Church where she attended faithfully and where she was involved with prison ministry and outreach to those considered "the least of these." For many years she volunteered as a cook for the annual "Just for Kids" Spring Break program. A gifted and devoted gardener, Yvonne was known for sharing her beautiful and bountiful plants with family and friends. More than anything, she loved the Lord, and her family is a testimony of God's faithfulness and consistent presence in her life.
Yvonne is survived by her loving daughters, Nafeeza "Birdie" Harrison of Evansville, Susan (John) Simkins of Pennsylvania, and Lisa (Ryan) Wisehart of the U.S. Virgin Islands. She also is survived by her grandchildren, Amber (Robert) Mohammed, Emmanuel (Cara) Harrison, Silas Wisehart and Ellis Wisehart, and her great-grandson, Damarian Harrison. Yvonne was pre-deceased by her brother, Hubert Romney. Her surviving siblings include her brothers, Gilbert Martes and Johnny Martes of Aruba, her sisters Sonia Martes and Letty Pattipeilohy of The Netherlands, Joan Eccles and Hetty Van Lierop of Curaçao, Caroline Sprok of Aruba, and Lourdes Mangal of Florida. Yvonne also is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends throughout the U.S., the Caribbean, and Europe.
A celebration of Yvonne's life will be held at 11 am on Monday, September 19, 2022 at
Osborne Funeral Home, 702 Gum St., Evansville, IN, 47713 with Pastor Brenda Steproe officiating. Friends may visit with the family Sunday from 3 to 5 pm and from 9 am until service time on Monday, September 19th at the funeral home.
