Deacon Wilbert "Doc" Alexander

March 28, 1936 — August 1, 2021

Deacon Wilbert Alexander was born on March 28, 1936, in Center Hill, Sumter County, Florida to the late Grant and Roverta Butts Alexander and was the eldest of three children.
Baptized at the age of eleven at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Winter Park Florida; he became Superintendent of Sunday School and a Junior Deacon
He graduated in 1956 from Hungerford High School in Eatonville Florida, where he was center for the football team, member of the school chorus and class chaplain.
Wilbert married his college Sweetheart, Betty J Dixson, on Thanksgiving, November 27, 1958. To this union two daughters were born: Kimberly Faith and Tara Nichole
He attended Kentucky State College (KSU), where he majored in pre-veterinarian medicine and studied animal insemination at Michigan State University. He was licensed as a Journeyman Structural Iron Worker and was a licensed barber in the State of Indiana.
Deacon Alexander was ordained a Deacon in 1960 at Carr's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Morganfield, KY under the pastorate of Rev. Lawrence Howard Sr. He joined Liberty in 1965 by letter from Carr's Chapel.
He was a 56-year member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church, Trustee, Chairman of mission's fund, Chairman of the Deacon's Ministry, Chairman of the Van Ministry, a Senior Usher, jail ministry, president of the male chorus, Second Vice President of the Southern District Laymen, and a member of Iron Workers Local 103
He retired as an Iron Worker in 2001 and worked part-time at Buy-Lows in Covert and Vann, where 2customers called him "Mister Buy-Low"
Deacon Alexander was named Liberty's "Father of the Year" in 1996 and "Man of the Year" in 2005.
He was known and by many and well loved by all who knew him. Known to many as "Doc"; he never met a stranger, he was helpful, a gentle, soft-spoken and a peace-making gentleman. Many asked him for advice, but any that he gave, was based on Biblical Scriptures.
Deacon Alexander gained his heavenly wings on the evening of August 1, 2021. He will be greatly missed.
Deacon is preceded in death by daughter; Matra Crenshaw and sister Grace Singleton.
He leaves memories with; his wife of 62 years, Betty J Alexander, Daughters and Son; Kimberly Alexander-Dixie and Tara Alexander Taylor (Tilon), Wilette Alexander, John Thomas, Grandchildren; Brooklynne Brady (Shannon), Trevyon Cunningham, Ariel Cunningham, Wilijah Deki Dixie, Jarael Crenshaw, Jessa Thomas, Jesseaka Thomas, J.T. Thomas, Tanesha Taylor, Daniel Dixie, Eric Webb, Travis Buie, 3 great grandchildren and one on the way, Brother, Fred Alexander as well as other family members and friends.
A Walk thru visitation will be held Tuesday, 9am until 11am with a private funeral service for family and friends only beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. In keeping with COVID 19 protocol, mask will be required. Osborne has been entrusted with final care.
