Vera Jean Thompson, born on April 14th 1939 in Charleston, Mississippi, to the late AC Smith and Clarine Johnson was the eldest of 4 children, Doretha ,Bernice and Calvin preceded her in death. She married Deacon Odell Thompson, whom she affectionately called" Daddy" to this union, 5 children born with Harold preceding her in death.
Vera worked at Saint Luke's Hospital and started several businesses, including Vera's Country Kitchen and Jean's Restaurant. While not limiting herself to her love and passion for cooking, she was a faithful servant of the Lord. She served as a dedicated servant during her membership at the Old Landmark Holiness Church Of God in Christ, St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church of Deliverance, Temple of Deliverance and Victory Temple Church.
Affectionately called" mama", she never met a stranger that she did not help. In addition to her love for people, she enjoyed importing the love of God and everyone that crossed her path. In May 1982, her love for children contributed to her pursuit of becoming a foster parent, she fostered hundreds of children which she referred to as "My Children" up until her passing. On February 27th 2025 at 7:30 AM.
Mama left her earthly home with her grandson, Terrence Sr and her daughter Lulu by her side.
Mourning her loss are her 2 sons, Adrian and Tremell, her 2 daughters, Jane (Donald) and Leatrice (William) her grandchildren, Sarah, Terrence Sr., Antony ,Charles (Jamie) ,Donjanae, J, Donald Jr. Janese(Jerry ) Amanda, Tiara and Adrian Jr.,
bonus children, Terrence, Robert, Austin ,Janet, Stephanie ,Clem, Jennifer and 21 great grandchildren as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
We are confident. I say and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.
A visitation will be held Thursday 10 to 11 am with funeral to follow at 11 am all at Victory Temple C.O.G.I.C., burial at Fernwood Cemetery.
