Shirley Ann Lester

February 16, 1939 — February 19, 2020

Shirley Ann Lester, was born in Evansville, IN on February 16, 1939, to the late Lenora Hathaway and Hurley Robinson. She entered Heaven's gates peacefully on February 19, 2020 at the age of 81.
She truly loved the LORD, and accepted Christ early in her life. She was a member of Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church. She loved attending church on Sundays and reading her bible and daily devotionals.
She was married to the late Nathaniel Lester, and to this union were two children (Pamela and Patsy) whom she loved dearly. A loving wife, mother and homemaker, Shirley was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. She also enjoyed hosting parties at her house during the holidays, where there was always a lot of fun, food and laughter.
After her husband's passing, she became a widow at the age of 42. Shirley entered the workforce and began working at RuVan Plastics, where she was employed for 28 years. She loved her job, being around people and never met a stranger. She was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2007 but continued to work. After being on dialysis for a year, it became more challenging, and she decided to retire at the age of 70. That same year, on her birthday, she received a call from University of Louisville Hospital that they had a kidney, and she received a transplant. She thanked GOD for answering her prayers and giving her the best birthday present ever!
Shirley dearly loved her two daughters, and when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along, it was pure joy in her life. They were a close-knit, loving family, and there was nothing that she would not do for any of them. She loved spending time with them, going to school functions, birthday parties, events, vacations and just simply hanging out at home together was a blessing.
She enjoyed listening to R&B and Gospel music, word find puzzles, playing board games with family and friends and loved a competitive card game of Spades.
Shirley's favorite TV game shows were Jeopardy, Family Feud and Wheel of Fortune. She loved watching all types of sports on television, and her favorite basketball team is the Golden State Warriors. When she watched them play, she had a special hat and blanket that she would wrap around her to cheer her team on.
Shirley truly fought the good fight. She gave us courage and hope, and she reminded us of the preciousness of life.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, brother; Edward Hathaway and sister; Barbara Pullom.
Left to cherish her memories are her loving daughters; Patsy Moore and Pam Fletcher (Leonard), son in law whom she loved like her son; Otis Moore Jr., grandchildren; Stephanie Roland (James), Otis Moore III, Patrick Lester and Patrice Fletcher, 6 great grandchildren as well as a host of other family members and friends.
