Missionary Evangelist Saundra Jean (Adams, Jones, Stewart) Thomas was 88 years old when she departed this life on earth. She was born on June 7, 1937, to her parents Frank P. Adams and Alice Rowrena (Payne) Adams of Mt. Vernon, Indiana. She attended the Methodist Church with her grandmother Ethyl Payne for several years. Ethyl raised her and her siblings after her mother died when Saundra Jean was only 13 years old. She married Elmore Jones Sr. when she was 16 yrs old and later took on the job of raising her younger siblings along with raising her six children. Elmore and Saundra were married 23 years. She joined the Freewill Baptist Church for a few years. Ater receiving the precious gift of the Holy Ghost at 16, she joined the Church of God in Christ as a Missionary Evangelist where she served as a very active member for about 60 years. She was Sunday School Sunshine Band teacher; she loved working with children. Saundra played the piano for church. She was active on the Hospitality board, Prayer and Bible board, and the YPWW. She would sing and dance praising God. In 1977 she married Hersity Spottsville Stewart for 17 years, until his demise. In 1998 Saundra married Laurence E. Thomas of Cario, KY. Laurence was the District Sunday Superintendent at the Church of God in Christ in Cario, KY. Saundra Jean joined this Church of God in Christ as an Missionary Evangelist and served on the Hospitality board for 23 years until her bout with COVID 19 that made her bed ridden along with Dementia.

She learned at early age from her grandmother how to be crafty with her hands. She made ceramics out of clay. Saundra embroidered doilies blankets and pillowcases. She crocheted hats, gloves, pants, dresses, scarves, vest, blankets quilts, etc. Everything was for sale. She would donate most of her proceeds to fundraising for the church and everyone would buy something from her to support her. She was quite the salesperson. She sold Amway products, Avon, Tupperware, Vanda Beauty products, Fuller products, Mary Kay make-up, and many other products. She was a very professional entrepreneur. This is how she made money to help care for her family. She worked housekeeping at Roberts Nursing Home for years. Saundra loved fishing with Ms. Mary Alice Givens. She would catch clean and fry that fish for her family dinners. Saundra would also feed the neighborhood children and her children’s friends. She spent time playing games and fun activities with her children and their friends. She always had something fun to do up her sleeves. She was also a humanitarian She would feed and clothe anyone and give them a place to rest their head. She had a special love for serving God and his people. Even when she could not walk, she still loved to sing and chair dance.

Saundra Jean was proceeded in death by both her parents, all three of her husbands, Elmore Jones Sr., Hersity S. Stewart, and Laurence E. Thomas. her brothers Stephen Adams (infant baby). Jessie Robert Adams. Jamed Ronald Adams, Frank P. Adams Jr., and infant sister Beverly Adams, three sons Elmore (Buttons) Jones Jr., Minister Ronald P. Jones, Nathan Ray Jones,

She leaves to cherish memories to two sons Terrence E. Jones of Henderson, KY. and Deacon Thomas E. Jones (Anita) of Morganfield, KY, and one daughter Constance Hutcherson of Henderson. KY. one sister, Carolyn Sue Adams Hunt of Indianapolis, IN., several stepchildren and many step grandchildren, 5 grandchildren.15 great grandchildren,11 great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephew, cousins, and friends.

Saundra Jean was the oldest survivor on her mother and father’s side of the family. There were five generations now there are only four.

She was a constant encourager and supporter of her children’s sports events. She never allowed other people to discipline her children. She would whoop you twice as hard for cutting up in front of elders. They sure didn’t mind telling her about you acting bad. That made her even more angry. She would love on you after your whooping. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Rest well Queen Saundra
