S Ruth "Vernie" Lavern Dixon-Thompson

April 16, 1945 — June 27, 2019

Ruth "Vernie" Lavern Dixon Thompson was celebrated by her parents Joe
and Clara (Coleman) Dixon, on April 16, 1945 in Gould, Arkansas. She
departed this life for a better life on Thursday, June 27, at Newburgh
Health care in Newburgh, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Ruth's life was driven by her dedication to her husband, and
daughters, grandchildren, and brothers, sisters. She enjoyed taking
care of her family, and rummage sales. As a young girl, she was known
as a "fighter" she would say "I'm always taking up for Joe, because he
always starts fights with the other neighbor kids". She enjoyed care
for her younger brother Wayne, just like he was her own.

Ruth professed a life in Christ at early age, at First Baptist Church,
Gould, Arkansas, later joining Liberty Missionary Baptist Church,
Evansville, IN.

She graduated from Field's High School, in 1964, later attending
Arkansas AM&N College. She was employed for many years at St. Mary's
Hospital, and Holiday Home Nursing Home. Later retiring for ProForm
Plastics, Evansville, IN.

When diagnosed with breast cancer 2005, she remained dedicated in her
work and in her will to fight her illness. She remained a brave,
iron-willed, even throughout her illness.

She leaves to cherish her memories a husband of 50 years David A.
Thompson, to this join two daughters Vanessa Holmes, and Kimberly
Thompson. Two grandchildren, Tamika Thompson, and Dennis Jackson. Two
great-grandchildren, Artealious Simms, and Ye'Nai Pauley all of
Evansville, IN. Six brothers, Norvell (Willie Mae) Dixon, and Jimmie
Dixon both of Gould, Arkansas. Joe (Brenda) Dixon, Royce (Linda)
Dixon, and Wayne Dixon, all of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. and Charles
Dixon of Evansville, IN. Two sisters, Brenda Dixon of Pine Bluff,
Arkansas, and Deborah (David) Brown of Houston, TX, Uncle Luke Dixon
from Los Angeles, CA, sister-in-law Hilda Atwood, of Youngstown, OH.
Host of nieces and nephews. Friends and classmates whom often asked
about her during her illness.

Preceded in death by her in-laws David, and Luella Thompson, and
brother-in-law Richard "Bubba" Atwood.

The family would especially like to Thank Rose Taylor, for her
continuous care, and support to our wife, and mother.
