Roy Gant Sr. (67) born October 5, 1950 in Evansville, IN passed away December 5, 2017 while at his home surrounded in the love of his family.
Roy professed a hope in Christ at an early age under the late Rev. J.D. Garrett at Eastview Missionary Baptist Church. Roy loved the Lord and often talked about Him. His favorite saying was,” He’s (God) got the last say” and he believed that. Before his health failed him he was employed at Ellis Park, he loved horses. Roy was a loving person, he loved people and people loved him. Roy loved to dress and style in his hats. Another thing Roy would say was “ It don’t take a dime to stay out of mine.” Roy lived his life on his own terms to the fullest. At one point or another in his life he has had everything but an airplane. He was truly a character.
Roy loved music and dancing but his greatest pleasure and love was for that of his family. Family was extremely important to Roy. Roy was the only one in the family that called his sister Cookie “Cakes”, they always shared a very special bond.
Roy is preceded in death by his mother, Loretta Hines, father, Alvin Gant, parents; Emma and William Ware, daughter; Marie Gant, son; Roy Gant Jr., and brother Robert Fletcher.
Roy is survived by his sons; Ramon and Alex Gilbert and Steve Shouse, brothers; Ray Ware, Paul Fletcher, William, Samuel and Walter Lockett, sisters; Rosalee (Rev. Richard Sr.)Barnes, Louise Reed, Rita (Rev. Todd) Robertson and Aretha Gant, special friends Denise (Niecie) Shouse and Francelle Gilbert 9 grandchildren, 1 great-grand daughter, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Roy told Cakes he wanted her to take him home. Leaves one to wonder, was he really talking about 814 Jackson?
The family would like to thank Bethel Manor staff, Heritage Hospice staff and the Eastview Missionary Baptist Church family.
