Phillip Gilbert Jr.

Phillip “Huckabuck” Gilbert Jr. was born in Henderson, Kentucky, on June 25th, 1948, to Phillip Gilbert Sr. and Clara Mae Dixon - Gilbert. Phillip passed away with his loving wife by his side on January 25, 2026, at Deaconess Henderson Hospital in Henderson, KY.

Phillip served his country and was a proud Army Veteran. Phillip had worked for many years in the City of Henderson's Sanitation Department. Phillip had been a faithful member of Mount Olivette Baptist Church until illness prevented him from attending.

“Huck” enjoyed life; he never met a stranger. He loved to dance, play cards, and just spending time with his family and friends.

Phillip's daughter Phyllis Smith and siblings, William C Gilbert “Boot Jack” and Rose Perkins, all preceded him in death.

Phillip is survived by his wife, Margaret, son, Troy Smith (Ingrid), daughters, Thea Cole, Amy Smith, stepdaughters, Janel Stott, Jennifer Calhoun-Mitchell, and Lori Taylor.

He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, February 11,2026,11:00AM

at Memorial Baptist Church visitation, 10:00 AM-11:00 AM

Entombment at Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson, Ky.
