It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Orlando Johnson, a remarkable individual who touched the lives of those around him. Orlando, born on December 19, 1933, in Evansville, Indiana, was a beloved member of the community and a source of inspiration to all who knew him. On September 21, 2023, he peacefully departed this world, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever be etched in our hearts.



Orlando graduated from Lincoln High School, class of 1951, and was a member of the Lincoln Clark Douglas Alumni. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. Also was a worthy Patron Eastern Star and was a Mason. Previously lived in East Chicago, Indiana Orlando possessed an extraordinary talent for the English language, and his command of words was truly exceptional. He shared his gift by engaging in various speaking engagements throughout the country, at various school systems, captivating audiences with his renditions of great historical poets. His oratorical skills were unmatched, and his dedication to perfecting his craft was evident in every performance.



In addition to his love for language, Orlando had a deep appreciation for jazz music. He found solace and joy in the enchanting melodies and harmonies that echoed through the airwaves. The rhythm of the music resonated within his soul, becoming a part of his very being.





Orlando is survived by his daughter, Stacy (Kevin) Ponder, stepdaughter Daria Grant, Myrna Aldridge, James Aldridge Jr, granddaughter, Quianna S. Brown, great grandchildren: Rojelio Daiz, Daniel Diaz, Aryah Barnes, Mauraj Brown, great great grandchild Mhomyis Williams, brothers Russell Johnson (Nicey) and Richard Johnson (Barbara). He will also be fondly remembered by his sister; Wanda Hines , Juliette Clardy (Odell), and sister Emily Starks (Herbie), special thanks to Fran Alexander, who cared for him prior to him moving back to Evansville



Along with his parents, Orlando was also preceded in death by his siblings Norman Johnson Jr, Kenneth Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Stella Pace, and Martha Mitchell., stepdaughter; Robin Aldridge He was also preceded in death by his former wives, Rita Shaw Johnson, and Margaret Aldridge Johnson.



The legacy of Orlando Johnson will continue to shine brightly, as his impact on the lives he touched remains everlasting. As we gather to celebrate his life, let us remember the passion, eloquence, and love he shared with us all. No public services were held.



In the depths of our sorrow, let us find solace in the memories and the profound influence Orlando had on our lives. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
