Orlando "Jose" Dixon

July 29, 1962 — July 10, 2018

Orlando Jose’ Dixon’s suffering and pain ended on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at his home as he was preparing to do what he loved best- going to work. He was 55 yrs. old.
Orlando was born July 29, 1962 to his late parents; mother Erma Dixon Valentine and father James Miles. He graduated from F. J. Reitz High School and was presently employed by AmeriQual Foods for 4 yrs. Prior to that he worked at Aramark for 14 yrs.
Orlando was affectionately called Jose’ by many friends and family. He had the spirit of a gentle soul, of a quiet man, well-mannered and even tempered. For those who knew how he drove to work at AmeriQual, he always drove slowly in the fast lane. When reminded he was in the fast lane he would simply say “they’ll get over it”.
When he received his diagnosis in late 2017 he never complained, even his demeanor remained the same. When asked how he was doing or feeling his answer always was the same “I’m ok, well as to be expected” He enjoyed working, watching sports, spending time with family and friends. He loved to eat a good home cooked meal and giving those in need rides to where they needed to go. He will truly be missed.
He leaves to cherish his memory: sister, Sherry (Stanley) Hopson of Indianapolis, IN.; brother, Timothy (Dana) Miles of San Diego, CA.; sister-in-law Electra Shane of Evansville, IN.; sister-in-law Jackie Valentine of Virginia; his only living uncle, Larry (Lisa) Miles of St. Louis, MO.; nephew De ’Arius Valentine; 6 nieces Martez Banks, Amil Rodgers, Adrian Valentine, Na’Shonika Valentine, Christina Valentine, Titania Thomas and a host of family, cousins and friends.
He is proceeded in death by his sisters Rev. Kim Smith-Payne, Leslie Valentine; Brothers Geno Shane, Brian Valentine.
Sherry Hopson and Timothy Miles thank each of you having eyes to see Orlando’s needs and answering God’s call to be obedient in any way you could help and assist him. We thank you for your unconditional love, care and work produced by faith. Your labor can be a powerful testimony of faith, hope, and love. To each of you job well done.
Brenda Rodgers, we thank you for being led by the Holy Spirit that something unthinkable had occurred and providing for Orlando in his time of distress, including the invitations to your Christmas celebrations. Ta’Sheka Rodgers, we acknowledge you for answering your mother’s call and taking on the courageous and unselfish spirit that you displayed by going above and beyond. Linda Turner and Samuel we appreciate you for rides and meals you provided him. Chan Miles thank you for providing meals and feeding those in need. Linda Kaye Boyd we cannot thank you enough for being by his side through all his chemo treatments.
The glory of life is to love, not to be loved; to give, not to get; to serve not to be served.
