Opal Oveda Sidney Mustgrove, 81, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home on March 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Opal was born on October 8, 1944, in Dehue, West Virginia, to the late Hobert Sidney, Sr., and Mary E. Moore Grissett.
A devoted homemaker, Opal dedicated her life to caring for her family and those she loved. Her home was a place of comfort, warmth, and unwavering support to all who visited. She possessed a nurturing spirit and a heart that extended far beyond her immediate family, embracing many as her own children and grandchildren.
Opal was a faithful and active member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she joyfully served as Youth Director and was a member of the choir in previous years. She found great fulfillment in guiding and encouraging young people, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives. In her quiet moments, she enjoyed sewing, reading, completing word search puzzles, and most importantly, reading her Bible and spending quality time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hurel Luther Mustgrove; her sister, Joyce King; her brother, Raymond Sidney; and her stepdaughter, Auna Mustgrove.
Opal leaves behind her loving daughters, Lanette Jackson, Shawn Kelley, and Tjorven Mustgrove; and her stepsons, Huey Mustgrove and Douglas Mustgrove, to cherish her memories. She is also survived by her brothers, Hobert S. Sidney, Jr., Lee Evans, and Tim Sidney; her sisters, Minister Shirley VanLeer, Helen “Shernova” Gilliam, Vanessa Knight, Judy Sidney, Lisa Jennings, and Arnetta Haynes; her cherished grandchildren, Cyana Jackson, and Arionne Kelley. She also leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
