Mildred Denise Morris, a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, was born on July 22, 1964, in Marks, Mississippi, to Katherine Morris and Tommy H. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her grandfather, Elton Morris (Christine), grandmother, Rose Lee Gates-Morris, and several aunts and uncles, including Elton Morris Jr., Edward Lee Hood, Jimmy Lee Hood, Elton Lee Funches, John Lee Funches, Ella-Mae Green, Lois Ann Morris, Willie B Tillman and Cordalee Gates.
Mildred graduated in 1982 from Francis Joseph Reitz High School in Evansville, Indiana, and devoted her life to her family and community. As a young mother, she embraced the responsibility of raising her eldest son, DeManzio Morris-Moss, and also helped care for her siblings after the passing of her mother. Over the years, her family grew with the births of Nathanial Morris-Moss, DeVonna Wallace, and her youngest child, Katherine Sebree. She also had the special honor of naming her beloved niece, Shanikka Denise Morris, the daughter of her brother Lonnie Dale.
Mildred's life was marked by resilience, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to others. She dedicated many years of service in the food industry, where her hard work and compassion touched the lives of many. Even in the face of illness, Mildred continued to serve her community through volunteer work with the Salvation Army, embodying a spirit of giving and selflessness.
Mildred passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Her legacy of love, faith, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, DeManzio Morris-Moss, Nathanial Morris-Moss, DeVonna Wallace, and Katherine Sebree; brother, Lonnie Dale Morris Sr. seven cherished grandchildren; Shariah, Akiya, Zakari, DeMonzio Jr, Malachi, Jenesis Aycen, significant other, Benjamin Wells and a large extended family, including uncles Pastor J.E. Morris (Debra), Collins Morris (A.C.), Otis Morris, Lee Funches (Debra), and Elton Lee Funches (Johnett); aunts Kimberly Morris (Elton Morris), Birtie Johnson (Angelo), Nicole Moore (Charles), Alice Davis, Viola Morris, and Minister Angela Sanders (Carl); as well as a host of nieces, nephes, cousins, and friends.
Mildred's warmth, compassion, and deep faith will be forever remembered. Though she will be greatly missed, her spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A visitation will be held Jan. 16th from 10 to 11 a.m. with funeral to follow at 11 a.m. all at Friendship Baptist Church. Burial, Oak Hill Cemetery
