Marlin Elvis “Popeye” Yancey was born on March 8, 1937, to Mattie L Yancey and Frank Foster in Hopkins County Kentucky. He attended J. W. Million High School where he excelled in basketball and never lost his love for the sport. He developed a love for golfing that he enjoyed until his health failed him. He had a smile that could light up a room.
Marlin went into the Marine Corp September 6th, 1956, at the age of 19. Marlin worked several jobs, including Flex Steel and Buehler's Buylow. He enjoyed socializing with friends and family, and he will be greatly missed.
Marlin accepted Christ at an early age at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he remained a member until relocating to Indianapolis, Indiana. He later re-located to Evansville IN where he united with St James Missionary Baptist Church, then later became a member of Memorial Missionary Baptist Church.
Marlin was married to the late Dorothy J. Yancey. In this union were four children, two of which preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 33 years Laura "Bea" Yancey and a devoted daughter LaDonna Richardson and a son Steven "Sean" Yancey. His devoted stepson Charles Williams, Larry Williams (Deanna), and Jamie Williams: a brother Royce Yancey "Two Spot" (Martha); Sister In-law (Lee Lee (Roy); Grandchildren: Ja'Ron Yancey, Brandi Yancey, Terrence Lewis, Kaliea Booker, Jeremy Gathering, LaShawdra Yancey, Jamia Williams. Lawrence Jr Williams, Sidney Williams, Charles Williams, Brandon Williams, & Bradly Williams & 14 Great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, & nephews.
