Luddie David Devaughn, Jr.

November 12, 1957 — May 31, 2021

Luddie David DeVaughn Jr. was born on November 12th, 1957, in Medford, Massachusetts to the late Luddie D. and Rose Anna Moore DeVaughn.
Luddie grew up in Newburgh, Indiana and attended Newburgh Elementary and Castle High School. He joined the Marines in 1976 and served for four years. He attended technical school and received certifications in welding, heavy equipment transport, and industrial maintenance. He was also a certified Journeyman with the International Union of Operating Engineers.
Luddie was a proud Marine and remained active in military related causes long after his active-duty years. He was a member of the Marine Honor Guard and the took immense pride in performing at ceremonies. He was an advocate of better treatment and services for veterans and a member of the American Legion Post 44. Luddie was adamant about people knowing the difference between Memorial and Labor Day and reminded people not to thank him for his service on Memorial Day.
Luddie enjoyed fishing, cooking, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He loved people and never met a stranger. Luddie stayed connected with his elementary and high school friends. He was known for his smile and infectious laughter. In his youth he loved hanging out downtown Newburgh in his green army jacket.
Luddie entered eternal rest on May 31st, (Memorial Day) 2021. Luddie is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Michael. Luddie leaves to cherish his memory his sister Faith Devaughn; daughter Nicole Day; grandsons Jason and Adrian Gaier; godson Jonathan Day; aunts Olinzie Johnson and Peggy Moore; uncles Alonzo Moore (Shirley) and Booker DeVaughn (Elena); several cousins, special friends Kenny Cain and Debbie Cain Buchannan and many friends from Castle High School class of 1977.
A cremation service will be held Monday, August 2, 2021 at Oak Hill Cemetery.
