Lorene Edmonds Powell

November 14, 1933 — March 13, 2025

Lorene Edmonds Powell, born on October 14, 1933, in Evansville, Indiana, peacefully departed this life at home on March 13, 2025, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Lorene was the beloved daughter of the late Benjamin and Savanna (Hart) Edmonds and grew up in a large and loving family with nine siblings: Benjamin, Charles (Chuck), Emanuel, Leroy, William "Les," Larry, Mayzelle, Marcella, and Alma Jean.
She married Charles B. Robinson, and together they welcomed seven children: Sherre "Red," Lisa, Carla, Pamela, William "Billy," Anthony "Tyrone," and Victor. Throughout her life, Lorene dedicated herself to caring for others. She worked as a nurse's aide in Topeka, Kansas, and later continued her work in Panama, specializing in geriatrics and newborn care. Upon returning to the United States and settling in Rising Sun, Indiana, she transitioned into the distillery industry, working first at Schinley Distillery before continuing her career at Seagrams Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana until her retirement.
In 1999, Lorene remarried William A. Powell "Bill," with whom she shared many cherished years until his passing in February 2024. Following his death, she relocated to Virginia Beach to be with her granddaughter Natascha Robinson.
Lorene was a woman of deep faith who found joy in worship and song. She attended Shiloh Baptist Church in Rising Sun before becoming a member of Union Valley Missionary Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg. She sang in both church choirs and found great fulfillment in her faith community.
A gifted cook with a passion for preserving flavors from the garden, Lorene delighted those around her with homemade jellies and jams as well as expertly jarred fruits and vegetables. Her pies and cobblers were legendary among family and friends who were fortunate enough to gather around her table for a taste of her down-home cooking.
Beyond the kitchen, Lorene was an avid sports fan who rarely missed a Cincinnati Reds game. Baseball brought her great joy and was one of her favorite pastimes.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill; her parents; all of her siblings; four of her children-Carla, Lisa, Sherre, and William "Billy"; and her first husband Charles "Skip" Robinson.
Lorene leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving children: Pamela J. Robinson of Kentucky; Anthony "Tyrone" Robinson (Deana) of South Carolina; and Victor Robinson of Kentucky. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren: granddaughters Natascha, Tamika, Syreeta, Tara (Doug), Tishana, Stacey, Jordan, Alexis, Meleah, and Carly; grandsons Joseph "Joey," Anthony Jr. "TJ," Joshua, and Isaiah; as well as great-grandchildren Mikel, Jolisa, Shaunte', Markeis, Nyema, Synaia, Jalen, Amina, Halo, Joseph Jr., Gracie,
Nico, Santonio, Juliana; and many other relatives and friends who will cherish her loving memory forever.

"Her children arise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all." ~ Proverbs 31:28-29
