Lamar Sylvester Leslie was born December 2, 1928 in Sanford, Florida to Callie Mae and Elmore Leslie. Lamar answered the call of his Lord and went to his heavenly home Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the Linda White Hospice House at the Deacomess Main campus in Evansville, Indiana.
Lamar graduated from high school in Dade City, Florida. He enlisted in the US Army at 19. He went on to attend classes at Tuskegee Institute.
He served honorably and meritously in Korea, Japan, Germany, Vietnam, and over 10 states in the United States. He served as a food service supervisor. After 21 years of service he retired from the Army at the rank of Master Sergeant E-8.
After retiring from the Army, he began a career in Insurance working for Metropolitan Life in Evansville.
He was married to Leola Wooten Poindexter on December 17, 1956. They raised 5 children: William E Poindexter (deceased), Minnie E Poindexter, Luecrease Poindexter Guest, Lee A Poindexter, and James A Leslie.
He had two happy marriages and was proceeded in death by Leola Wooten Leslie and later by Betty Bell Leslie. Leaving step-daughters Glenda Bell Poindexter and Jan Bell Magic (deceased).
Also surviving are several grandchildren including Lonnie and Joann Guest Bell who helped greatly in his last years of life. He also has many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and even a few great-great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including approximately 6 generations of loving family and friends.
