Kent Eugene Hite
Kent Eugene Hite was born to the late Gwendolyn L. Hite and the late Henry E. Kelley on July 7, 1956. Reverend Hite’s early educational training beganin Evansville, Indiana at Glenwood Elementary School and continuing onto Benjamin Bosse High School where he graduated in June of 1974.
Two years after finishing high school, Reverend Hite entered the United States Army on a delayed entry program in January 1976. In July 1976, Reverend Hite started his military career in Neu Ulm Germany. While in Germany, Reverend Hite was in the Field Artillery Unit. While serving in this Unit, he was asked to work as a Chaplain Activities Specialist for the Post Chaplain’s Office.
After three years of service, Rev. Hite re-enlisted as a Chaplain’s Assistant. During this tenure, Rev. Hite was trained in the Chaplain’s Field at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. In 1980 Rev. Hite was reassigned to the Asian country of Korea where he preformed the duty of Non-Commissioned Officer in charge of the Post Chaplain’s Office. All of this was in preparation of an unforeseen calling that he would later accept in his life.
On March 6, 1990 at 12:01 a.m. Reverend Hite experienced the potential that God had for his life. Kent E. Hite was called by God, through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to preach the Gospel. After announcing his calling to Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Reverend Hite preached his initial sermon on May 6, 1990.
Reverend Hite felt the divine urge to pursue his ministerial calling by attending and graduating from the American Baptist College of the American Baptist Theology College of Nashville, Tennessee. During his tenure at American Baptist Theology, Reverend Hite was fortunate to become affiliated with the Greater Revelation Missionary Baptist Church under the supervision and tutelage of the Reverend Adric Lane.
Reverend Hite joined the Greater Revelation Missionary Baptist Church under the authorized attachment of Christian Experience.While at the Greater Revelation, Reverend Hite was afforded the opportunity to perform the duties and responsibilities of Sunday School Superintendent. It was during his tenure at Greater Revelation Missionary Baptist Church that Reverend Adric Lane felt lead to ordain Reverend Hite and allowed him to become an instructor in West Nashville District Association. The death of his grandfather, Deacon Henry Hite, brought about the return of Reverend Hite to Evansville, Indiana.
During this time Reverend Hite assumed position of Pastoral Assistant to the Reverend Dr. R. V. Terry, Pastor of his home church Zion Missionary Baptist Church and also working in the capacity of Instructor for the Sunday School teachers, Men’s Sunday School teacher, Zion Day Care Ministry and other duties that would benefit and enhance the edification of the Kingdom of God in the local church.
The only regret of Reverend Hite has is that his mentor the Reverend Dr John M. Caldwell and his uncle Reverend Dr. T. A. Hite could not witness what they told him would someday happen in his life.
Reverend Hite has is pursuing his educational career in the Master’s Divinity Program at the Seminary of Oakland City University, Oakland City, Indiana. Reverend Hite is the proud brother of four sisters: Mrs. Sherri (Ernest) Merriwether, Mrs. RaVonda (Lawrence) Thompson, Mrs. Patrice (Harold) Miles, and Mrs. Angela (Howard) Harper.
Most sincere and continued love for: Nieces and Nephews Unek, Shamaya, Lamario , Sherika, Blake, Brandon, my best friends Rev. and Sister DuWayne (Connie) Blair, Uncle and Aunt James (Anna) Kelley, Uncle Venston (Selma) Holland, just to name a few. Last but not least my very special friends Sister Kimberly Clayborn-Millender, and Mother Janice Jackson.
Reverend Hite says of his marital status at this time, “I am engaged to the McFarland Missionary Baptist Church.
