Kathryn Jean Mayes

Kathryn "Jeannie" Mayes was born on June 13, 1954 in Kentucky to James and Ruth Mayes in the back seat of their car. She went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 28, 2014. She had struggled with COPD for over a decade and beat a lot of odds throughout those years. She was a very strong-willed woman who loved doing "fill in" puzzle books, watching westerns, riding her jazzy, and spending time with family and friends. During her hospital stays, you could find her on the ventilator doing her puzzle books and watching westerns. She even had her grandson Brison hooked to the westerns and they'd sit and watch "Gunsmoke" and Bonanza" together. When the weather was nice, she was either on the porch or riding her jazzy around town.

She is preceded in death by her parents James and Ruth Mayes and her sister Margaret "Ann" Baker Mayes.

Left to cherish fond memories are her 6 beloved children; Crystal Smith (Dawon Sr) of Nashville, TN, Christopher Compton,
La Donna Compton (Joe), Jennifer Compton (Thomas), Stacy Mayes, and Isaih Mayes all of Evansville, IN. She also leaves her greatest joys, 8 grandchildren; Cassandra Compton, Dawon Jr, Carmello, Cimorah, and Christ'zion Smith all of Nashville, TN; Jarnell and JaQuoia Carter, and Brison Compton all of Evansville, IN; and 2 great grandchildren; Nicholas Jr and Passion Sims of Nashville, TN.
Siblings: Connie Perkins (Ernie), Jimmy Mayes (Becky), Wayne Mayes (Mary), Randy Mayes, Bonita Winstead, Roger Mayes (Angie), Mary Mayes, Stevie Mayes, and Tricia Thurman (Todd) all of Evansville, IN, aunt Mary Hayden and uncle Clifford Hayden, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and close friends.
