Joseph Louis Trask Sr.

February 16, 1936 — August 7, 2017

Reverend Joseph Louis Trask Sr., was surrounded with loved ones when he was called home to be with the Lord on 8/31/2017, in Evansville, IN at the age of 82.
He was born February 16, 1936 in Baton Rouge Parrish Port Allen, Louisiana to the late Harriet Brown Henry and Leonard Trask.  He met his childhood sweet heart, the late Flavoria L. Douglas and they married as teens. He was educated at Kohn High School in Port Allen, Louisiana.   He enlisted and served in the United States Army in the Korean War.  While serving in the military, he and Flo started a family, which grew to include four children.   In addition to his extensive military service, he received his Ph. D in Theology in Memphis, Tennessee.

As a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in West Memphis, Arkansas, he was called into ministry in 1968, under the guidance of Reverend S.J. Parker.  He later became pastor of multiple churches located in Forest City, Wynne and LePanto within the Arkansas region.

In 1978 he relocated his entire family to Evansville, IN to become Pastor of Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church and served for 10 years.  He continued his ministry under the leadership of the late W.R. Brown Sr., of New Hope Baptist Church, until he was called to Pastor Eastview Missionary Baptist. In 1994, he founded Christ Missionary Baptist Church, and served faithfully until his retirement 2008.
In addition to his pastoral duties, he was an active member in the community.  He was employed at Evansville Black Coalition as a Substance Abuse Counselor, and he retired in 2005.  He was heavily involved throughout his career with non-profit community based organizations such as Head Start, community action programs, Counseling for the Aging, and many more.  He was also a proud member of the Masons.
He is survived by his sisters: Rosia Glasper, Deborah Ferdinand, Faye Brown, Sherry Smith, Jenny Lawrence, Joyce Henderson, Barbara Moore and his Brothers: Leonard Trask, Leon Trask and Leroy Trask, Valerie Trask Moore (Daughter), Joseph Trask, Jr., (Son), Tonjya Hawkins (daughter),Titus Trask (Son) and Rahima Ibrahim (Daughter).

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 56 years Flavoria L. Trask, Carolyn Trask (Daughter) of Evansville, IN. Doris Mims (Sister), Margaret Lang (Sister), Victoria Antoine (Sister) Alfred Henry (Brother), Alvin Henry (Brother) and Eddie Lee Trask (Brother).
Grandchildren: Andrea Trask, Kataka Milon, Frederick Moore III, Kolaiah Hawkins, Koa Hawkins, Amais Trask, Joseph Trask III, Kailey Trask
Great Grandchildren: Fernando Wilson, Ayden Trask-Wright, Shakiah Milon, Shataya Hostzclaw, Maleka Moore and Patience Moore.
Great Great Grandchildren: Tayton Wilson, Kasynie Wilson, Kailani Greentree.

He was loved by many and will be especially remembered for this devotion and faithful service to Christ.  We will miss his rendition of his favorite song…God’s Amazing Grace.
