Janie Elizabeth (Baker) Blanton of Evansville, Indiana, departed peacefully from earth to the presence of the Lord on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital. She was born in Evansville, Indiana, to the late Emma Lee (Bacon) and Richard Baker on March 29, 1948. Janie is preceded in death by her parents, Elgie Blanton (husband), Dorothy Baker (sister), and Arthur “Pete” Baker, Charles “Sonny” Baker, and James “Jimmie” Baker (brothers).

She graduated from Bosse High School in Evansville, Indiana. She was a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she accepted Christ at a young age. She served on the Nurse’s Guild at church. She retired from Ascension St. Vincent Hospital as a nursing assistant after working 38 years caring for patients and working in the NICU nursery. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, watching television, joking around, sleeping, and talking, as she never met a stranger.

She is survived by her children: Olaseni (Erica) Blanton, Kartanya Blanton, Karnesha (Jon) March; grandchildren: LaKenneth Blanton (Coco Simmons), Karjanae Triplett (Lacolby Terrel), KaLeye Cartwright, Robyn (Ricardo) Barksdale, Shene (Myles)McCants of Tomball, Texas, Ola Blanton, Jonnesha March, and Jaquan March; and 11 great-grandchildren, all of Evansville. She also leaves behind sisters: Hazel Townsend and Carolyn (Charles) Farmer of Evansville; brother, Mitchell Baker of Hagerstown, Maryland, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital ICU and Osborne Funeral Home for taking such good care of our beloved mother, grandmother, and sister.
