James Washington Jr.,69 of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. James was born on August 19, 1955, in Sturgis, Kentucky to James Washington Sr. and Robbie Pendleton Washington. James attended Chestnut Walnut School and Lincoln Grade School, later graduating from Reitz High School
James, "Jimmie or Wheatstraw" as he was known to family and friends was a good-hearted person, a loving son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle. He would give you the shirt off his back or his last, but would always speak his mind. He grew up on Olive Street, then moved to the uptown projects. He loved to spend time in his garden and cooking. He also enjoyed fixing things around the house and second-hand shopping. He was a sharp dresser and you couldn't tell him he wasn't fly.
James is preceded in death by his parents James Washington Sr. and Robbie Mae Washington, Sisters Sharon and Jackie, grandparents, Rev. Robert and Opal Pendleton and nephew Reggie Hawkins "A.K.A Concrete".
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife; Joyce Washington, son; James Edward Washington III, daughters; Janieciah Washington, Tara Washington, Mahogany Washington, Deairah Washington, brothers; Donald Washington and Kenyattie Washington, sister; Cheray Galbreath, stepbrother Adrian Washington, grandchildren; James IV, Devaeh, Dalyss, Robert, Ryan, Jasmir, Jalen, DaVinity, Ayrees, Aydenn, Ayrren, and a host of nieces, nephews extended family and friends.
A visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 8th from 10 to 11 am with funeral service to begin at 11am all at Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel.
