James “Jimmy” Milton Farmer Sr., 75, was born October 9, 1941 to the late James Nathan and Emma Mae Briscoe- Farmer. He departed this life on Sunday, January 15 at 8:05AM at VNA Charlier Hospice, surrounded by what he loved – his family, plants, and Chicago Cubs memorabilia.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen Kelley- Farmer; two sons, James Jr. and Charles (Lynne) Farmer; two daughters, Dalerie (William) Lyles and Darla Stevens, all of whom reside in Evansville; Sisters Ruth Fellows and Mary Sanderson both of St Louis and Ester Farmer-Patton of Evansville, brothers Carl Nathan Farmer of St Louis, Charles H. Farmer(Carolyn) and Rev. Robert Farmer, eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
He was a hardworking man; he retired from Alcoa after 34 years of employment. He enjoyed being outdoors and working with his hands; gardening, restoring his 1985 Jeep Wrangler, and fishing were among his favorite hobbies. He was an avid watcher of Westerns and sports.
Though a man of few words, those in his life knew to listen when he spoke. He gave poignant advice from a place of compassion and humility. He possessed a warm heart and a straight-forward sense of humor. He had a positive impact on the world around him and will be dearly missed.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and rehabilitation staff at Deaconess Hospital, Health South, and VNA Charlier Hospice. Memorial contributions may be made to Joshua Academy Pre-School.
