GOVERNOR G. B. GARDNER, affectionately known to family and friends as "Gov," was born to Carl and Cynthia Gardner on January 20, 1976. He departed this life at his home in Evansville, Indiana on Monday, May 15, 2023. Governor was introduced to the Lord at a very young age and later became a member of Memorial Baptist Church.
Governor's formal education began at St. Benedict Catholic School. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1995 where he received many football and basketball scholarship offers.
Governor embraced life with zest, enthusiasm, and courage. He had many skills and abilities but was truly an avid sports fan as evidenced by his love for football and basketball, both of which he excelled in. Governor enjoyed watching both of his sons follow in his footsteps to play both sports in high school and at the collegiate levels. He was ever so proud of them. He enjoyed listening to music and spending time with his friends. Everywhere he went, he left his mark. However, the love of these things shows no comparison to the love he had for his family.
Governor's struggle was hard, and he fought like a warrior. He stayed strong in his faith. God always saw the best in him but in his infinite wisdom, He called him home.
Governor is preceded in death by his father, Carl Gardner and grandparents.
Governor leaves to cherish and celebrate his memories: his loving mother, Cynthia Gardner; Sons, Ge'Kove Gardner and G'Corian Gardner of Owensboro, KY; Sisters, Joan Gardner (Atlanta, GA) Tia Clemmons (Wilmington,NC) and Carla Gardner; a brother, Curt Gardner; Aunts, Shirley "Delores" Mack (Charlotte, N.C.) , Ella Jacob (Wilmington, NC) and Janet Gardner (California); Nephews, Durell Clemmons, Derek Gardner, and Dion Milan; Niece, Danielle Small; great nieces, nephews, cousins and many other family and friends who loved him dearly.
