Gornetta Meriwether, 78, of Evansville, IN passed away on February 2, 2018. She was born on January 19, 1940 to the late Mary Francis McFarland and Jewell Ricketts.
Gornetta was a graduate of Lincoln High School. She retired from Guardian Automotive after 35 years of employment. She enjoyed many hobbies in retirement including arts and crafts, reading, cooking and church activities. She enjoyed fashion and won the Tri State Ushers Hat Show with some of her beautiful hats. Gornetta also enjoyed serving on the Usher Board at her permanent church home Memorial Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son Fernando Meriwether; sisters Marjorie Williams, Pamela Miles, and Revetta McFarland.
Gornetta is survived by her husband of 63 years Lawrence H. Meriwether Sr.; sons Lawrence Meriwether Jr., and Torrence Meriwether; daughters Darla Meriwether, Debra Meriwether-Baltzell, and Keely Meriwether; brothers Michael Miles, and Renaldo McFarland; sisters Madeline Brooks, and Kendra McFarland; a cherished uncle Donald Johnson; and an abundance of grand and great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday February 10, 2018 at Memorial Baptist Church, 605 Canal St. with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. until service time. Osbourne Funeral Home is in charge of final arrangements.
