George Elbert Williams

George Elbert Williams was born on June 26, 1924 to the late Johnny and Mary (Fox) Williams. He took flight to his heavenly home at 6:15 pm Sunday, May 31, 2020. George earned his wings

George attended both Lincoln and finally Attucks High School. He served in World War II from July 6, 1943 to December 12, 1945 as a driver in the all black 4011th Quartermaster Truck Company, better known as the “Red Ball Express”.

George was united in Holy Matrimony to Clara Ann (Jackson) Williams and to this union six children were born. She departed this life on January 7, 1982. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1989, Chicago, IL after many years of exceptional service. Shortly after retiring he moved to Birmingham, AL where he resided in retirement for nine years. In April 2004 George moved to Tampa, FL due to health concerns to reside with his eldest son Duane and daughter-in-law Deborah.

George was a longtime member of Mount Mariah Baptist Church in Chicago, IL where he served as a Junior Deacon. As a Mason, he held a special allegiance to the Richard E. Moore Lodge #109, Free and Accepted Masons, Prince Hall Affiliate, Chicago, IL.

George leaves to mourn his passing three Sons and one Daughter, Duane Williams, MAJ, Retired, USA, (LTC, Retired, USA Deborah L. Williams) Lithia, FL, Ea Williams Allen, Louisville, KY, Hal Williams, Hopkinsville, KY, Vemont Williams, Indianapolis, IN and one Son who proceeded his death, Hoyt Williams, Memphis, TN; seven Grandchildren, five Great Grandchildren, Sisters Barbara Williams Rivera, Orlando, FL, and Sondra Elaine Williams, Evansville, IN; three Sisters who proceeded his death, Gloria Williams Cartwright, Shirley (Babie) Williams-Owsley and Joyce Dean Jones; Brothers Harry Williams, Cleveland, OH, Clark Gable Williams, Chicago, IL; one Brother who proceeded his death, Alton Williams; 19 Nieces and Nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends who loved him.
Visitation will be Friday 4 to 6:00 P.M. at Osborne Funeral Home. Funeral will be held Saturday at 10 A.M. at Osborne Funeral Home. Osborne has been entrusted with final care.
