Darlene was born on March 1, 1965, in Highland Falls, New York and departed this life on March 6, 2022 at Deaconess Hospital Midtown.
She accepted Christ at a very young age at the Church of God In Christ. She was a member of McClure's Memorial Baptist Church where she was instrumental in starting the Gladys C. Watkins Memorial Childcare Center, which was created in memory of her Mother-in-law, Gladys C. Watkins.
Darlene was educated in Evansville, IN and graduated from Frances Joseph Reitz High School in 1983. She continued her education, receiving an Associate Degree in Social Work from Ivy Tech in 2010.
She was employed at Youth Service Bureau 10+ years doing what she loved most, by aiding young mothers in need of care to provide for their children. She was last employed with the City of Evansville for 5+ years working for the Board of Public Works under Reverend Todd Robertson.
Darlene was preceded in death by her mother, Chiquita Annette Gully-Johnson (December 17, 2007); Father, Fredrick Nelson (June 17, 1991).
Darlene was a loving wife, mother, nana, sister, auntie. She leaves to cherish in memory her husband, Kevin Kirkwood (over 38 years together), daughter; Kristina E. Kirkwood; two grandson, Kristopher and Kobe Kirkwood, brothers; Frederick Tyrone Nelson, George Nelson(Monica) and Willie Nelson and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins extended family and friends who loved her dearly.
Visitation will be Friday 10 to 11am with funeral to begin at 11:00am at Memorial Baptist Church. Osborne has final care.
