Frederick Lee Cook, 74, left this earthly home on Monday, November 28, 2022, to take rest with the Lord. Frederick was born in Evansville, Indiana on November 13, 1948, to Charles McGee Sr. and Elizabeth Grizzard Cook.
Frederick was a faithful member of Memorial Baptist Church. He had worked various jobs. He was a C.N.A. working at Brentwood Nursing Center and the Evansville State Hospital. He was a licensed cosmetologist, ran his own shop “Fredericks Palace Salon”. He also had worked at Earle C. Clements Job Corp.
Frederick often called Mr. Freddie or Fred Cook was a well-known figure to the Evansville community. He never missed an opportunity to let voice be heard when he felt an injustice was taking place. Even after illness took his ability to walk, it did not slow him down from his dedication to the community. You could see him in his wheelchair rolling all over town. Fred would be seen at the polls on election day, greeting and supporting the candidate he felt was the right person for the job. He had a knack for making others laugh and you rarely seen him without a smile. You cannot forget his famous Lemonade. He would set up his stand and sell cups of lemonade to raise funds to help others in the community. He wanted to better his community any way he could. Mr. Freddie was “Carney” (carnival worker) working the carnivals for over 30 years. He headed and was involved in many organizations, such as Coalition of Inner-City Neighborhood (C.O.I.N.). Goosetown Neighborhood Association just to name a few. He particularly loved hosting Christmas in the Hood, to make sure the inner-city children did not go without toys and gifts at Christmas time. He loved to play Santa and Mrs. Claus with his wife, Portia and did so for many years at several events. Art and craft were another one of his many talents. He was an asset to the Evansville community and will truly be missed.
Frederick is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Christine Edward, and Jackie McGee.
He leaves his fond and precious memories to his wife. Portia Moorman Cook, children Rickquia Millbrook and Felicia Davis-Sutton, brothers, Michael McGee and Charles McGee Jr., sister, Margaret Ann Williams, 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousin extended family and friends
