Floyd Price Miller

September 2, 1925 — December 4, 2015

Rev. Dr. F.P. Miller, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, December 4 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Greensboro (Louisville), Mississippi to the late Price and Pearl (Triplett) Miller. Also proceeding him in death was his faithful, lovely, and precious first wife Frances Elizabeth Justice-Dickerson Miller, stepson Dwight M. Johnson and siblings Bessie, Joe, Daisy, Bertha Mae, Gladys Louise, Beulah, Bilbo, R.T. and Price Jr.
After proudly serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and a career at General Motors Fisher Body Plant in Flint, Michigan began, it has been said and duly noted that if F.P. had followed the ways of the world he would have made “Pretty Boy” Floyd look like “Baby Face” Nelson. But the force was strong in this one. After answering the Call of his Lord and Master and Savior in 1957 he embarked on a journey of due diligence with faith and works, of study and of service. Even after the loss of his beloved wife Frances he continued the herculean task of raising (4) four children while also ministering to flocks in Missouri, Mississippi, and Michigan and also duties as an educator and guidance counselor in public and parochial school systems and institutions for the blind, deaf, and disabled while also continuing his education to quietly and incredibly earned his Ph.D. degree from Universal Bible Institute, B.S. and M.S. from Jackson State University and B.Th. from American Baptist Theological Seminar. This background served him well in his final position at the Southwesten Indiana Mental Health ,Children's Psychiatric Home where he retired. In 1974 he was called to pastor at the Second Baptist Church in Vincennes and after a successful pastorate there, he became the pastor of First Ebenezer Baptist in Evansville were served for over 39 years. Through his leadership, guidance and personal involvement, F.P. was active in the community and civic affairs including but not limited to, Harvest Time Inter-City Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, Human Rights Commission, Ministerial Alliance, Evansville Area Council of Churches…he always made time to visit the sick and feed the hungry.
He is survived by his beautiful and wonderful in her own right wife for 41 years Pearlie Louise Johnson Miller; brother, Rev. Sylvester (Mary) Miller; sister, Catherine Miller; daughters, Rev. Veltri V. (Ken) Taylor and Velvry V. Fitzhugh; sons, Verdier V. (Mary) Miller and Attorney Verdelski V. (Avril) Miller; 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and a great multitude of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday, December 12, 2015 at New Hope Baptist Church. Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2015 at First Ebenezer Baptist Church.
