Elgie Lee Blanton

May 2, 1947 — April 15, 2015

Elgie Lee Blanton, 67, of Evansville, Indiana, departed peacefully from earth to the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was born to Robert and Ardella (Lee) Blanton of Winchester, Kentucky who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers Curtis Blanton, Frank Blanton, brother-in-laws Randall Hopewell, Arthur “Pete” Baker, Charles “Sonny Boy” Baker, and grandparents.



Elgie was a veteran of the military (Army). He retired after 30 years of service from Alcoa Warrick Operations in Newburgh, Indiana. He enjoyed watching sports and cheering on his favorite team Kentucky Wildcats. He loved social gatherings to spend time with his family and friends. Elgie spent his final days with the ones he loved the most his family which made him smile, sing and laugh.



Elgie leaves behind is loving wife of 47 years Janie Blanton. Surviving is his son, Olaseni (Erica) Blanton of Evansville, two daughters, Kartanya Blanton (Indianapolis, Indiana) and Karnesha (Jon) March of Evansville, God daughters (nieces) Darlene Chandler and Cordelia Baker both of Evansville. His sisters, Ivaleen Hopewell, and Ardella (Golden) Gay all of Winchester, Kentucky, sister-in-laws Dorothy Baker, Hazel Townsend, Carolyn (Charles) Farmer of Evansville, and brother-in-laws James Baker of Evansville and Mitchell Baker of Hagerstown, Maryland. He has eight grandchildren Robyn Isom, Shene Blanton, LaKenneth Blanton, Cheffon Kaleye Cartwright, Olashene “Ola” Blanton, Karjanae Triplett, Jonnesha March and Jaquan March, bonus grandchildren Tiara Chandler, Zaja, TyJae, Jana and Maddie Baker and his granddaughter- in-law Rhea “Cocoa” Simmons all of Evansville. He has six great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Elgie also leaves behind his best friend, Jackie Hill, crazy friend, Mary Margaret Miller, her daughter, Chlhandra Chenault “Butta” all of Winchester, and good military friend David Marzette.



Osborne Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangements with visitation to be held from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. (CDT) followed by funeral services on Monday, April 20, 2015 at Zion Missionary Baptist Church Evansville, Indiana. Burial will be held in Oak Hill cemetery.



The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Osborne Funeral Home, and Schelece Henderson (home caregiver) for the wonderful care of our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle.
