On Friday, December 20, 2024, Eleanor Rouse, age 94, left this earthly life and entered eternal life with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was born on August 27, 1930, to the late Douglas Lander Sr., and the late Lillian Dandy Lander.
She leaves to cherish her memory , sister Eunice Garnett of Evansville, IN. brother George Dinkle Lander of Dallas, TX., sons Melvin D. Rouse Jr. and Gregory P. Rouse(Vicki), grandchildren Michelle Scott (caregiver), Marva Johnson, Melony Rouse, Taneka Welch(Marty),April Hail (Chuck), Carmen Owensby, Tiffany Moore ( Patrick) and a host of great grandchildren and many friends.
Mrs. Rouse was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Evansville, IN. She was employed at Welborn Hospital as a nurse's aid for many years before becoming employed at Mead Johnson's Pharmaceutical Company where she retired after twenty-five years of service.
Reading, working crossword puzzles, listening to old school gospel music, and traveling were just a few of her favorite pastimes. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
She accepted Christ at a young age at Grace Lutheran Church and continued her Christian journey at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where Rev. W.R. Brown senior was pastor before joining Memorial Baptist Church where Rev. Dr. Adrian M. Brooks Sr. is the pastor.
While at Memorial, God used Granny El (one of her many nicknames) to love, lift and encourage individuals while serving in the "We Care Ministry," writing notes to the members of the congregation quickly became a labor of love and one that she took seriously.
You never had to wonder what was on her mind. She would tell you exactly what she was thinking and at the same time, she was the one you could count on when you needed help.
Another one of her favorite pastimes was watching court TV and spending time with her sister, Eunice. They were inseparable.
A celebration of life will be held Monday Dec. 30th at 11:00 A.M. at Memorial Baptist Church, beginning with a visitation from 9 to 11 A.M.. Burial following service at Sunset Memorial Park.
