Dorothy "Dot" Mae Baker, 86, of Evansville, departed to her heavenly home January 20, 2025 at home. She was born in Cadiz, Kentucky to the late Emma Lee (Bacon) and Richard Baker on December 14, 1938.
She graduated from Lincoln High School in Evansville, Indiana. She was a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She worked for years at Enfield Sewing factory until it went out of business. She was self-employed as a licensed day care provider for 30 years and devoted her time caring for many foster children over 25 years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, taking care of children, spending time with family, and watching her favorite shows Little House on the Prairie, Lassie, and western shows like Gunsmoke and Cheyenne.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Arthur "Pete" Baker, Charles "Sonny" Baker, James "Jimmie" Baker; brother in-laws; Joe Townsend, Elgie Blanton and grandson; TyJae Baker.
She is survived by her daughters; Darlene Chandler and Cordelia Baker, son; LeKevin Baker, grandchildren; Tiara Chandler, Zaja, Jana, Madalyn, Xavier, Blakelynn, and Ja'Kylan Baker all of Evansville. She also leaves behind special nieces Kartanya Blanton and Karnesha March, bonus son; Leander Lacy and bonus daughters; Monich and Diamond Carter, Shanera Henton, Yolanda Sears and fourteen bonus grandchildren. She leaves behind best friend and sister, Hazel Townsend, Janie Blanton, Carolyn (Charles) Farmer of Evansville; brother Mitchell Baker of Hagerstown, Maryland along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Deaconess Hospice and Osborne Funeral Home for taking such good care of our beloved mother, grandmother, and sister.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 4 p.m. to 6 pm. at Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1800 S. Governor Street, Evansville, with private burial ceremony at Sunset Memorial Park.
