Donald Francis, the son of Delores Gamble and Carl Francis was born June 11, 1945 in Evansville IN. At an early age he confessed a hope in Christ in accordance with the Holy Rites of the Roman Catholic Church.
Donnie received his education from Rex Mundi High School in Evansville IN. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Air Force where he served his country from 1962-1966. While serving in the Vietnam War he received the Air Force Good Conduct Medal as well as a National Defense Service Medal. Later on in his life he would go on to continue to serve his country by enrolling in the National Guard.
Donnie was united in holy matrimony to the late Johnetta Francis. The couple had 1 child, Shannon Francis. They resided in Milwaukee Wisconsin and then later relocated to Indianapolis Indiana in 1987.
Donnie was retired from the city of Indianapolis Flood Division of the Department of Public Works where he met some lifelong friends like Jimmy Bostick. He enjoyed playing chess, listening to jazz, horse racing, and football and working in the yard. He could often be found chatting with his fellow neighbors when working in the yard on a nice day.
Donnie was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and friend who will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Donnie leaves to cherish his loving memory: his daughter Shannon Francis and son Deshawn Tipton, Siblings: Patricia Williams, Linda Dorsey, Deidre Helm, and Ceola Helm, Grandson: Marquis Tipton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
