Derrick Laron Nance 50 years old, son of John "Jack" Nance and Ruth Nance-Douglas, formerly of Evansville, Indiana, died at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon on October 18, 2021, after a series of illnesses.
Derrick was a very gifted singer as was his father and brother Jack "Fatman" Nance. He followed in their footsteps and performed in local talent shows in Evansville in which he often won in his age group. Dancing and performing was something he expressed throughout his life. He was a member of a rock band in Oregon and California. Although he had no children of his own, he nurtured and loved his cat "Baby Love" as if it was his child.
He attended Bosse High School. His church affiliations include Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in Evansville and Imago Dei Community Church in Portland. He loved all of his family and had a close relationship with his sisters Karen and Leisa who were his caregivers since he moved to Portland in 1993. Although he had many illnesses he enjoyed life to the fullness.
Derrick leaves to cherished memories: mother Ruth Nance-Douglas; sisters, Deneice (Robert) Love of Indianapolis, Mary (Jeffrey) Thomas and Ranae Hodges of Evansville, Karen (Peter) Stenzel and Leisa Carter of Portland, Tonya Carter of San Antonio, TX and Louise Summerville (aunt) of Evansville, beloved cat "Baby Love", and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding in death: father "Jack" Nance, brother Jack "Fatman" Nance; grandparents John Nance Sr. and Irma Gordon-Warren and Joseph and Gusta Brodie; uncles Joseph Brodie and Henry Warren; aunts Audrey Nance, Phyllis Norman, Cordelia Wimsatt and Virginia McGhee
