DeCarlo M. Johnson, 59, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Monday February 9, 2026, at his home from his long battle with pancreatitis.

DeCarlo was born on September 26th, 1966, in Evansville to the late Harold D. and Alice (Buckner) Johnson. DeCarlo was a remarkable presence in the lives of many. You could recognize him from a distance just by the way he walked — that unmistakable stride that spoke of confidence, joy, and a life well-lived. He had a zest for the simple and meaningful pleasures: casting a line and waiting in peaceful joy while fishing, crafting delicious meals in the kitchen, cheering on his favorite football team, or shaking a leg when good music came on. His laughter was warm, his spirit was lively, and he truly lived in the moment.

Those closest to him knew many sides of DeCarlo — to his children, he was simply Dad, a loving, steady presence whose heart was always open. To friends and family, he might have been known as “Carlos,” “Red", “Whiteboy”, or "Chuck" — names that spoke to his vibrant and charismatic personality.

DeCarlo is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald Lee Johnson; and sisters, Etta Shavon Gilford, Carrie Elaine Johnson, and Pamela Yvette Johnson. He now rests in peace in joyful reunion with his loved ones on his mother's 100th birthday.

He leaves to cherish his memory his three children: Nikiea Marvell Johnson of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; La Neashea Renee (Adrian) Butler; and Mikiel Cortez Ralph. He was a proud grandfather to Reagan and Noah Street, and Aijalon Butler. He is also survived by his brothers, Harold Douglas Johnson Jr., Gary Preston (Glenda) Johnson, Terry Tyrone (Arma Dean) Johnson of Cortland, IL, and Dennis Darnell Johnson; sisters: LaDonna Faye Dabbs, Denita Gayle (Hank) Miles, Peggy Denise Johnson, and Angela Arlene Johnson. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, as well as his good friend, Mark Pickett.

DeCarlo will be remembered for his warmth, his love for family, and the unmistakable way he carried himself through life. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the meals prepared in his honor, the football games watched with enthusiasm, and every song that inspires someone to dance.
