Debra Rebecca Gibson Banks, 68, Of Evansville, IN, passed away on July 25, 2016 after a long battle with kidney disease.
Debra was born in Evansville, IN on April 6, 1948 to Ethylen Ray and Ernest Gibson both of Evansville, IN.
Debra graduated from Benjamin Bosse High School, Class of '66. She then married William O. Banks in 1968 and they celebrate 48 years of marriage. A dedicated wife and mother,
Debra also worked outside the home with Child Protective Services for several years. Affectionately called the "lunch lady" Debra also worked in the cafeteria for several schools within the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation, retiring in 2009.
Baptized as a child at Liberty Baptist Church, Debra grew in her faith at The Mount Olive Galilee Baptist Church and continued her Christian journey with the Memorial Baptist Church family. At Memorial, Debra served the Lord in multiple areas of the church such as: Nurse's Guild, Senior Choir and Sunday School Superintendent. Debra's passion and love was for the Sunday School and Christian Education which she helped organize along with other members of the church. She was also a proud volunteer at the United Caring Shelter
Debra loved her flowers and loved growing them known best for her Elephant Ears and Cannanes. She had a green thumb and could grow anything. She was a neighborhood mother that nurtured all the kids in the area and was referred to by many as "Momma Banks".
In addition to her parents, Debra was preceded in death by brother Ronald Gibson, Great Grandmother Odie Bishop and Great Grandfather Raymond Ray. Surviving are Husband William O. Banks, Daughter Audra R. Banks, Son David E. Banks, Granddaughter Ashanti L. Banks, Grandson Ethan W. Banks (all of Evansville, IN), Sister Tonya M. Johnson (Spencer, IN) and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Relatives and friends are welcome to view 9am to 11am Saturday July 30, 2016 at Memorial Baptist Church 645 Canal St. Evansville, IN 47713 with funeral services beginning at 11am with Rev. Adrian Brooks officiating. Interment will be at Locust Hill Cemetery.
