Darlene Lucille (McGuire) Smith, 70, was called home to rest on April 15, 2017. Darlene was 20+ year fighter and survivor of Multiple Sclerosis.
A native of Evansville, Indiana, she is proceeded in death by her father, Antonio Maceo McGuire; mother Lucille (McClure) McGuire; brothers, Donald and Larry; and sister Elnora (McGuire) Brimm.
Darlene’s Christian life began at an early age at Liberty Baptist Church where she loved and accepted the Lord. She was active with Grace and Peace Lutheran Church until her death. She attended Chestnut-Walnut Elementary School and later Lincoln High School. She graduated from Benjamin Bosse High School in 1965 and attended the University of Evansville.
She worked for the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation for a number of years, and enjoyed working in retail. She loved giving back to her community by donating to St. Jude and was proud member of Lincoln-Clark-Douglas.
Darlene was a devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend and is survived by her high school sweetheart and devoted spouse of 49 years, Charles Smith Jr. of Evansville; daughter, Tina Staten (Darius) of Evansville; son Christopher Smith (Amy) of Valparaiso, Indiana; grandsons Xan, Tyce, and Kroix Smith; sisters: Betty McGuire, Dorothy (McGuire) Nixon (Luther), Linda Johnson, Diane McGuire, and many, many nieces, nephews, and friends who lover her and whom she loved.
Funeral services will be April 22, 2017, at Grace and Peace Lutheran Church, 200 S. Boeke Rd., Evansville, Indiana 47714. Visitation will begin at 10 am with the funeral following at 11 am. Burial will be at Sunset Funeral Home and Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions be made to Tri-State Multiple Sclerosis Association. Osborne has been entrusted with final arrangements.
