Missionary Clarissa Cook Barrett, 66, of Henderson Ky transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home to be with the Lord at Deaconess Henderson Hospital in Henderson Kentucky, on Monday August 30, 2021.
She was born on January 11, 1955, in Madisonville Kentucky to the late George L. Cook Sr. and Evelyn Louise Cook of Madisonville Ky. Clarissa was proceeded in death by her Sister Emma Louise Cook, Vanna Lee Cook Berry, Lotta Mae Cook Wilson, John Luster Cook, Jo Ann Cook Parker and Turner Cook.
She went to City High and graduated from Henderson County High School. She worked at Dolton Terrace, as a nurse aide in Chicago Illinois. She also worked in a rest home in Calumet City. In Kentucky, Clarissa worked at various places such as: Goody's, Ramada Inn, Medco Nursing Home as a nurse aide, Red banks along with Community Methodist Hospital as a transportation Tech in the Radiology Department until her health did not allow her to continue. She loved taking patients to their rooms, offering prayer for them and their families, always greeting everyone with a smile and when they would ask her how she was doing she would always say "I'm doing wonderful, wonderful!!!" even if she wasn't. She will truly be missed by everyone that knew her. Clarissa also worked for many local families such as Luther & Dorothy Duncan, The Latta Family, The Schultz Family, The Herrons, Close friends were also John and Annette Newland, The Staples Family and many more.
Clarissa is the Director and Founder of God's Store House Food Pantry. She received a Community Service Award for her dedication and proudly served for many years. She worked faithfully at Healing The Broken Hearted Ministries in the food and clothing bank. Where her Son n law Pastor Lawrence and Daughter, Co-Pastor Lady Teresa Thomas Church reside in Henderson Ky.
Clarissa married the love of her life, Stephen L. Barrett Sr. Also known to Clarissa as (Sugar Daddy, Honey & Baby) and have been married for 51 years. She is survived by her husband Stephen L. Barrett Sr. and her eight children, whom she gave all (nick names) As follows: Teresa Thomas("Marie")(Lawrence), Elisha Barrett ("Leesha"), Shareese Calhoun ("Reese"), Shauntese Barrett ("Teese"), DaVona ("Dee") Parker ("My Doctor"), Chavon Johnson ("Bon Bon")(William), Stephen L. Barrett Jr. ("My Bubby") & Shulisa Barrett("Shy") all of Henderson Kentucky. With a host of 35+ Grand, Great Grand and Great Great Grand Children, also a host of nieces & nephews.
Clarissa was a member of Temple of Deliverance and currently attending Healing The Broken Hearted Ministries. She loved life to the fullest and enjoyed a weekly Tuesday Movie Day trips. She enjoyed going out to eat & being around family. She loved people and loved to make people smile. She was a Foster Parent for over 25 years to many children (Necco, Heritage, Benchmark, Villages of Indiana). More than anything she loved spending time with her family. She had an infectious smile and greeted everyone by saying "Praise The Lord!" She will be greatly missed by all her family and so many of her friends.
In addition to her husband and children, Clarissa also leaves to cherish her Brother George L. Cook Jr. (Renee) of Nashville Tn. And Carolyn Malone of Evansville Indiana, whom all love and will miss her dearly.
Visitation will be Friday, September 17th, 5 to 7pm at Osborne Funeral Home with funeral service being held Saturday, September 18th from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at One Life Church at 1644 Second Street, Henderson Ky 42420. Burial will be at Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson, KY following the funeral service. We ask that Any and all Family Members who wish to pick up to go dinners, please pick up from HTBHM at 1250 Powell Street Henderson Ky immediately following burial. As per CDC guidelines Masks and social distancing will be required during all services.
