Christopher “Bobby” Clayton Sr. was born to Jasper Clayton and Elizabeth Brown on December 19, 1931 in Peru IN. At the age of 86, on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Golden Living Brentwood, a golden heart stopped beating, while surrounded in love by his daughters.
Bobby attended Lincoln High School and a member of the Lincoln Clark Douglas Alumni. After high school he joined the United States Army and served his county. Bobby was a faithful member of St James Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Trustee.
Bobby was a good man who always had an unforgettable smile, the doors to his home were always open to family and friends. He retired from Mead Johnson/Bristol Meyers after many years of service; never one to sit still he worked various other jobs including, Synder Buick Auto, Rodgers Jewelers, and the Evansville Museum of Arts and Science. He was also a member of the Golden Age Breakfast Club, and a member of the Sterling Mens Club, where he participated in every barbecue until illness prevented him from doing so. He loved to travel, camping trips with his family and friends and the charted bus tours he and his wife sponsored with their good friends, Thomas and Christell Fykes. Better known as, Clayton and Fykes n Tours. The most important thing to Bobby was his family, especially all his grandchildren.
His generous and joyful spirit will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Eva Mae Clayton, and son Christopher Clayton Jr. and son in law Archie Briggs.
Left to cherish many fond memories are his daughters Katherine Clayton-Briggs, Renee Clayton and Pam Clayton and daughter in law Donna Clayton, six grandchildren and a host of great and great- great grandchildren, Shirley Jean Moore, his in laws who he loved liked brothers and sisters and a host nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends,
The family would like to extend a thank you to the Brentwood Alzheimer’s Nurses and Aids, Housekeeping, Dietary and all Staff of Brentwood Golden Living for the excellent care you all gave, Heart to Heart Hospice, VNA, Pastor Baltzell and St James Church, Evansville Museum, personal friends and all the good neighbors of East Gum Street.
Funeral Service will be Tuesday 12:00 at St James Missionary Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 10:00am until noon service time at the church.
