Join us in celebrating the life of Chester Edward Darrett. Chester lived till the age of 96 and departed this life December 1st, 2018. He was born November 13th, 1922 in Evansville, Indiana to James and Stella Darrett. He attended Lincoln High School, and shortly after joined the Civilian Corps.
The Civilian Corps, the main sub-division of the armed forces assigned to a particular kind of work, was established by President Franklin Roosevelt in 1933; these crews built America’s infrastructure. Chester joined the United States Army March 5th, 1943. While in active service he was in charge of convoys and regulation compliance. He served 16 months overseas and was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1946.
Upon returning stateside, Chester worked for Chrysler Corporation, The City of Evansville Waterworks Department, and finally for Bristol-Myers Squibb. He would go onto to retire from Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Maintenance Department in 1988.
Chester also loved to sing and was the Choir Director of the Zion Baptist Church adult choir of Evansville, Indiana.
Preceding Chester in death, were his parents; James and Stella Darrett. His loving wife ; Patricia Morton-Darrett, Siblings; Luvenia Markham, Clara Anderson and James Darrett.
He leaves to cherish his memory; children: Donna E. Clayton, Mark E. (Tamara) Darrett; Peggy A. (Anthony) Darrett-Brewer, Chester blessed the world with 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family.
Chester will be lovingly remembered for his witty sense of humor, gardening, master grill skills, craftsman skills and his stellar work ethic.
Chester’s mind was sharp all 96 years of his life, until the day the Lord called him home.
Funeral service will be Saturday,11:00am at McFarland Baptist Church. Visitation will begin 9am Saturday at McFarland Church until service time.
