James "Mann" Milton Farmer Jr.

May 2, 1961 — May 26, 2025

Evansville

James “Mann” Milton Farmer Jr., 64, was born May 2, 1961, to the late James Milton Farmer, Sr., and Helen Louise Kelley-Farmer. He departed this life on Monday, May 26, at 6:45 AM at Encompass Rehabilitation Hospital in Evansville, IN, after a long illness. James graduated from Benjamin Bosse High School in 1979 and matriculated to Indiana University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and African American studies. He was employed at a variety of agencies, which consistently led him to community and social services, including SWIRCA (Meal on Wheels), Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center, Apex Behavior Services, and EVSC. James was an advocate, member, and sponsor of NA and AA, where he participated in and led meetings throughout the tri-state area. Mann accepted Christ at an early age at Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church and served on the Usher Board until his illness. As a servant leader, Mann hosted Saturday morning prayer breakfasts at his apartment for many people each week. His contagious laughter and smile always lit up a room at family gatherings. He loved fishing, grilling, reading, and playing chess. James was preceded in death by his father, James Farmer, Sr, and survived by his mother, Helen, and siblings, Dalerie (William) Lyles of Newburgh, Charles (Lynne) Farmer and Darla Stevens of Evansville, IN. Uncle Mann was crazy about his nieces and nephews — Briscney, Ashlyn, Cory, Erin, Chelyn, Manoah, Ryan, and Madiya — and the feeling was mutual. The insight and wisdom he bestowed upon them will never be forgotten.
