On Sunday August 28, 2022 Bruce "Secret Weapon" Pittman was called home to strike the bell with the heavenly team. He was born on December 31, 1954 in New Haven, CT to the late Thomas Henry Pittman and Rosella Williamson Pittman.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, his loving devoted wife of 26 years, Brenda Murry-Pittman. Two sons, Stephen Pettross and Adriel Hillman, one daughter Iesha Brown, and daughter-in-law Lori Pettross. 5-grandchildren, Ashley Johnson, Gymesha Hethe, Kemesha Henry, Adriana Hillman, and Ean Pettross.
Bruce Pittman was survived by his beloved siblings Shirley M. Hall, Ann Pittman, Joyce Pittman, William Pittman, and David Lee Pittman.
He was predeceased by his siblings Clifford Pittman, Vivian Christine Hilton and his best friend "Chairman of The Board" Moses Malone.
He leaves behind to mourn a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and many best friends.
He was a graduate of New Haven James Hillhouse High School. In his professional career he received special skills training in firearms, patrol duty, traffic control, interrogation, investigation, detention and arrest procedures, evacuations, building/ equipment safe-guard skills, surveillance, telephone dispatch and emergency procedures.
His work history in Evansville included the Marriot Hotel, Casino Aztar, Vanderburgh County Corrections Complex, and Public Safety Officer at Eastland Mall. In Washington D.C he served as a Special Police Officer of the Commission of Mental Health Services and a security officer for executive/combat security. In New Haven he worked for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Company.
Bruce was a devoted sports fan and dedicated member of the Evansville community. He spent many hours volunteering his time as a mentor at Carver Community Organization AARP Program and as a basketball coach at the Boys and Girls Club. He was a loyal fan of the Evansville Otters for over 20 years. He will forever be remembered for lifting the spirts of fans at the games.
Bruce and Brenda had the opportunity to travel to major US cities. They enjoyed visiting Hawaii, Mexico, Bahamas and Las Vegas where they honeymooned. He attended several NBA All-Star Games along with his best friends, Moses Malone and childhood bubby Michael Ellis. In his lifetime he had the opportunity to meet many famous people; Howard Cosell, Traci Ellis Ross, Terry Cruz, Steve Harvey, Gabrielle Union, Rev. Al Sharpton, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, Chelsea Clinton and many more.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 3,2022, 10 am to Noon with funeral to follow at 12 Noon at Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
