Arthur Lee Hawes was born in Henderson County, Kentucky on July 15th 1946 to the late Virgil and Mildred Banks-Hawes. Entrusting his life to Christ at an early age, he was baptized at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Arthur entered Eternal Glory at the age of 70 on May 29th 2017.
Arthur attended Douglas High School in Henderson, Kentucky and graduated in 1964 and in 1966 he met and fell in love with Diane Wilson whose birth date is July 15th 1948, they wed on June 29th 1968.
He was a fun-loving individual who enjoyed joking around, cutting up and making everyone around him laugh – often giving his friends and family nick names. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Although he often possessed a stern exterior, Arthur had a heart for family, and it showed. It was his pleasure to cook for family and friends for his fish fry’s, BBQ’s and host all the holiday dinners. He also loved to host Super Bowl parties and NBA finals and sometimes surprised everyone with homemade ice cream.
Arthur was employed, as of May 18th 2017, at ALCOA Operations for 47 years. Often asked when he was going to retire, his reply would always be “I’m not, I’ve gotta have something to do”. With that he became his own “Mr. HGTV”- fixing and repairing and remodeling the house. Arthur was also a classy fashion connoisseur and was lovingly called “Mr. Esquire” by his wife, Diane, and with that “stroll” he possessed, was dubbed “Denzel Washington” by his children.
He joined New Hope MBC in 1975 under the pastoral ship of Rev. W.R. Brown, Sr. While under the pastoral ship of Rev. Rabon L. Turner he participated in the Men’s Chorus, Men of New Hope and was a faithful, active member in Sunday School.
