Agnes Mary Louise Edwards Hughes, affectionately known as “Ms. Pat” was born on June 28, 1935 in Evansville, IN to Karl and Louise Edwards, who preceded her in death. She attended St. John’s Grade School and Memorial High School. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, where she married her husband, Andrew L. Hughes Sr. in 1953. From their holy union came eight children. She departed her earthly life on February 13, 2018,at home surrounded by loved ones.
She was a faithful member of St. John’s Catholic Church, serving as a founding member of the Friends of St. John’s Dinner Fundraiser and a member of St. Peter Claver. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Otis Stone Post 345. She was the past recipient of the Black Women’s Task Force Woman of the Year Award. Ms. Pat retired from Tri-State Athletic Club in 2008, where she worked as a maintenance supervisor for over 30 years.
Anyone who knew Ms. Pat was aware of her love for bingo, cards, fishing, and cooking. Whether you were family or a stranger, everyone was welcome in her home. She was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend to many. Her legacy will continue to live on for many years.
Agnes now joins her soul mate of 62 years Andrew Hughes Sr. and son Cornell Hughes who preceded her in death.
She leaves nine children to cherish her memory :Andrew L. Hughes Jr. (Carla), Anthony R. Hughes Sr. (Debra), Pamela L. Mitchell, Marvin Hughes Sr. (Cynthia) of Huntsville, AL, Patrice Denea’ Jackson (Tony), Carla Hughes Dozier (Pat), Ricardo Hughes (Darlene) of Milwaukee, WI, Thelma Scott of Indianapolis, IN and Cornell Hughes (deceased), as well as 24 grandchildren, great grandchildren, great–great grand children, aunts and uncles. Brother in law , Lawrence Morgan of Indianapolis, God Daughter Brianna Goines , a host of nieces, nephews, extended daughters, sons, friends , and family.
The family would like to thank Asera Care Hospice for their dedication and caring service during this time. We appreciate everyone who took the time to visit, call, and pray with us. She was so blessed to have so many special friends in her life. We love you all dearly.
