Mrs. Pearlie L. Miller, age of 93, passed away Monday, August 12, 2024 in the comforts of her home. Mrs. Miller, a native of Pulaski, IL, was born to Henry and Lou (Roberts) Wright. Mrs. Miller’s natural mother passed and her father remarried Cordie Wright. From the union of Mrs. Miller’s parents, five children were born, all of whom preceded Mrs. Miller in death. The names of her siblings and their beloved spouses are as follows: Hubert (Lillie) Wright, Willa Mae Bledso (John), Lula Bell Cannon (Vern), and Elsie Goosby.
Mrs. Pearlie L. Miller married Rev. Marion Johnson, Jr. He passed and she remarried Rev. Dr. F. P. Miller in August of 1975. Rev. Dr. Miller died in December of 2015. From Mrs. Miller’s marital life, five children (Dwight M. Johnson who preceded Mrs. Miller in death, Verdier V. (Mary), Rev. Veltri V.M. (Kenneth), Attorney Verdelski V. (Avril), &Velvry V.M. Fitzhughbecame a part of the family. Mrs. Miller is also survived by one brother-in-law, Rev. Sylvester (Tenesha) Miller of Louisville, MS.
Mrs. Miller, fondly referred to as Grandmother and GiGi, has 13 grandchildren as follows: Christopher (Stacey) Moore, Louisville, MS; Andrea (Jamar) Groves, Evansville, IN; Gloria Harrison, Henderson, KY; Verdier Damar Miller, Evansville, IN; Jarad Vanya Miller, Indianapolis, IN; Veltra K. Taylor, Indianapolis, IN; Kenneth Miller Hudson Taylor, Evansville, IN; Price C. Miller, Evansville, IN; Alita F. Miller, Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Verchauntra V. Fitzhugh, Atlanta, GA; Verquindon D. Fitzhugh, Evansville, IN; Verquaunya V. (Mike) Dickey, Indianapolis, IN. Mrs. Miller is blessed to have great grandchildren, an extended family and a host of friends.
Mrs. Miller accepted Christ as her Lord and Saviour at an early age. She lived her life as a child of God and demonstrated that love via her love for her family, and those she met. Mrs. Miller has been described as one who has a heart of gold and possessed a spirit of kindness, friendliness, and fellowship.
Mrs. Miller has an exceptionally fruitful career life as an educator of the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation. Having completed coursework at the University of Evansville necessary for receipt of her Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees, Mrs. Miller experienced a career life with the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation. She reportedly had an excellent rapport with the students, parents, teachers, and administrators. Through Mrs. Miller’s career, she experienced an opportunity to impact the lives of many for 26 years, retiring from secular work in 1991.
As fondly called by the worshipping community, Mother Miller was active in many church, outreach, community service, and student enrichment projects, including but not limited to HarvestTime Inner City Ministries, After School Program, Mothers’ Board of First Ebenezer Baptist Church, General Missionary Baptist State Convention of IN Southern District Association Youth Department, Baptist Ministers Wives Council of Evansville, Habitat for Humanity of Evansville, Evansville Community of Churches.
Celebration of life for Mother Miller is at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2024, at First Ebenezer Baptist Church, 518 S. Linwood, Evansville, IN with visitation from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Masks are available. Committal service is to take place at Park Lawn Cemetery, Monday, August 19, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to Osborne Funeral Home.
