Reflection of life of Thomas “Axe” Gilmer Jr 1938-2024
Thomas Gilmer “Axe” affectionately known to his numerous friends and family, was born on December 25, 1938, in Clarksville, Tennessee, to Thomas E Gilmer Sr. and Rosie L. Watkins Gilmer. His wife; Shirley M. Gilmer, his oldest son Michael E Gilmer, his brother; Richard A Gilmer (Dickey) as he was affectionately known, and his parent preceded him in death.
Axe departed this life on Friday, May 24, 2024
He was baptized at St Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. He received his education in the Clarksville School System and graduated from the historic Burt High School.
He worked for Andrews Van Lines as an over-the-road truck driver until their closing upon when he moved to Evansville, Indiana and started driving trucks for A& H Truck Lines. After several years at A&H, he decided to become an owner-operator and worked for CSX Transportation. After the death of his wife, he decided to give up trucking and moved back to Clarksville, where he and his friend; Warren Reesee opened AXE CAB.
Axe married the love of his wife; Shirley Marie Trotter and to this union, 5 children were born.
Axe was an extremely loyal friend. He loved life and was always on the go. He loved to just get in the car and ride without any destination in mind.
He loved clothes and was known to be a sharp dresser with his numerous pairs of Stacey Adams, leather coats, and jewelry.
He never met a stranger, all who knew him and loved him will surely miss his presence.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter; Alicia Carter (Kevin), son; Jeffery T. Gilmer both of Henderson, Ky., sons Richard A. Gilmer(Jala) and Daryl K. Gilmer both of Evansville, IN., his grandchildren; Ashonda Carter and Tylon Carter both of Henderson, Ky., Corrine Bowling, Cordell Gilmer, Cortlyn Gilmer all of Evansville, IN., his great-grandchildren; Alayah Carter, Greyson Carter, Shylyn Carter, and Lyla Carter of Henderson, Ky., Piper LeMaster, Brayden Browning of Evansville, IN., his sister in laws; Carloyn Hillman, Patricia Collier both of Clarksville TN., Theresa Trotter of Daytona Beach FL., brother in laws; Autry L. Jones of Chattanooga, TN. And Thomas Trotter Jr. of Daytona Beach FL., a nephew; Lawrence Godfrey (Deborah), a host of nieces, cousins, family, and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, June 3, 2024 10 AM until 11:00 AM at Osborne Funeral Home.
